Born into the girl-group era of the early 1960s, the vivacious Marvelettes are forever famous for delivering Motown's first No. 1 record on the pop charts, "Please Mr. Postman." The song has its own life – not least through The Beatles' celebrated remake, and later still, a chart-topping version by The Carpenters – but the charmers from Inkster, Michigan, are remembered through other fine music made at Motown. 1968's Sophisticated Soul, their biggest album, was the first Marvelettes record to feature Ann Bogan and yielded the hit single "My Baby Must Be a Magician" plus the Top 10 R&B hits, "You're the One" and "Here I Am Baby." 180g vinyl LP.
