The Orb and David Gilmour Return With Metallic Spheres In Colour a Reworked Version of Their 2010 Album Metallic Spheres
The Orb are a successful and influential UK ambient/house collective, built around Alex Paterson, with a flexible line-up of collaborators that frequently includes producer/multi-instrumentalist Youth, aka Martin Glover, well-known for his production and work with Killing Joke and Paul McCartney as The Fireman. David Gilmour is the legendary singer, guitarist and songwriter with Pink Floyd.
The original Metallic Spheres album was released in 2010. This extraordinary release combined The Orb's signature atmospheric soundscapes with Gilmour's evocative guitar work, resulting in a transcendental sonic journey that pushed the boundaries of both electronic and rock music. The team have reworked this into an entirely new cosmic voyage titled Metallic Spheres In Colour.
As with the original Metallic Spheres album, Metallic Spheres In Colour is designed to be heard in two parts: the first part the “Seamless Solar Spheres Of Affection Mix” and the second part is the “Seamlessly Martian Spheres Of Affection Mix.
Of this rework, producer Youth says ‘The idea for Metallic Spheres In Colour, was that Alex Paterson (founder of The Orb) could have done more on the first version, and he didn't really have the opportunity because we had a philosophy of making the music like the Blade Runner soundtrack meets Wish You Were Here. So, I asked him why don't we remix it and make it like an Orb classic? And in doing that, it's almost like a completely different album.’
