Originally released in 1968 on Gordy Records, Wish It Would Rain was the final album from the Temptations’ Classic-5 era, during which David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams constituted the Temptations’ lineup. It marks the last Temptations solo album featuring the classic “Motown Sound,” and the last to include production from Smokey Robinson. The title track peaked for three weeks at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard R&B Singles chart.
