Description

Remastered and Available as a Standalone 180g Double Vinyl Release for the First Time!

For the first time, Tom Waits is issuing standalone editions of his 2006 classic 56 song release Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers And Bastards. Each of the three albums, Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards, will be remastered and pressed on 180g double vinyl. A spectacular musical journey, which visits most every genre of American song tradition, the diverse collection captured the full scope of Waits' shamanic powers as a vocalist, literary lyricist, romantic melodist, innovative arranger and pioneer of sonic worlds. The Grammy-nominated set, which took over three years to compile and record, is grouped by genre with songs guaranteed to move and shake the heart, the body, the mind and most unquestionably the soul.

It goes far beyond a simple career retrospective, dipping back as far as 1984 with the bulk of it's songs hailing from the mid-90s onward. Over 2/3 of the material had never been heard when originally released in 2006 including 30 newly recorded songs. Orphans also featured a number of songs finding a home on a Waits' album for the first time. They included Waits' unique interpretations of songs by such diverse talents as The Ramones, Daniel Johnston, Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht and Leadbelly. These outtakes, rarities and the previously unreleased material were separately grouped into themes and named, Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards.

Brawlers is a collection of full-throated juke joint stomps, raucous blues and boogies. It's roadhouse Tom Waits. He chugs, whistles and screams. It's primal steaming surreal blues. He channels the Rolling Stones, Captain Beefheart, Muddy Waters and T-Rex. One new one, "LowDown" is raw garage rocker with Waits' 20 year old son, Casey on drums and San Francisco's white trash blues icon, Ron Hacker, on guitar.
