Voted Album of the Year by Q Magazine in 1990, World Party's excellent follow-up Goodbye Jumbo is much tighter than the British pop/alternative rock project's 1986 debut Private Revolution. Dealing with issues from the environment ("Take It Up," "Put the Message in the Box") to relationship woes ("And I Fell Back Alone"), these tracks manage to maintain a hopeful, positive mood without becoming trivial. In these songs, Karl Wallinger (The Waterboys) developed his own distinct style. It peaked at No. 73 on the Billboard Top 200 and No. 36 on the UK albums chart. Lead single "Way Down Now" spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative songs chart while follow-up single "Put The Message In The Box" reached No. 8.
