Zapp & Roger were an American funk band formed in the late 1970s, known for their innovative use of the talk box, a device that alters the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and allowing the musician to shape the sound's vowel sounds. The band was formed by the Troutman brothers: Roger Troutman and Larry Troutman. Roger was the lead vocalist and played the talk box, while Larry played keyboards and provided background vocals.
Zapp & Roger gained popularity in the early 1980s with hits like "More Bounce to the Ounce" and "Dance Floor", which became staples in the funk and R&B music scenes. Their music was characterized by its infectious grooves, catchy melodies, and Roger's distinctive use of the talk box.
