Our friends at The Absolute Sound have recently awarded 16 turntables with prestigious Editors' Choice Awards. These selections are worthy of their accolade not only due to their affordability (priced from $400-$4,000), but because how each component performs when playing vinyl. We offer eight in our diverse product portfolio – including the MoFi UltraDeck+ turntable. As Julie Mullins muses in the magazine's July/August 2018 cover story, "Bottom line: The UltraDeck is a smartly conceived and finely honed design that's already earning its place as an instant classic."
Also joining in the "Analog Eight" is the outstanding Rega RP8 with its amazingly rigid Tancast frame and triple-layer glass platter. See for yourself as The Sound Organisation's Tom McGehee joined us for a look into RP8's technology:
Pro-Ject Audio also netted three winners. Let's start with the budget-leading (and best-selling turntable in its price class) Debut Carbon, which earns its stripes by incorporating the high-performance engineering of its bigger brothers in a compact, easy-to-set-up design. Our sales team continues to love recommending it due to its longevity and proven prowess as a stellar budget turntable. Pro-Ject's RPM9 Carbon adds higher-quality Isolation feet and improvements in plinth isolation all the while advancing music-first enjoyment through advanced carbon-fiber tonearm technology and a standalone 24v belt-drive motor for increased detail and an ultra-low noise floor. Last but not least, Xtension 10 is among my personal favorites from Pro-Ject. It arrives far over-engineered at its price point with a 10" carbon-fiber tonearm, heavy platter, adjustable speed box, and thick wood veneer plinth available in a host of finishes.
Clearaudio continues to show analog lovers and Music Direct fans how to better enjoy music with its extensive collection of handmade players. The venerable Concept and its younger sibling, Concept Black, are among the stable of turntables that come virtually ready to play out of the box. Equipped their hand-selected matching cartridges, each model offers bar-raising levels of musical enjoyment with any system with which they're paired.
Finally, as Audio-Technica returns to Music Direct with an all-new lineup of cartridges, the company continues to break barriers in the form of the AT-LP7. An Audio-Technica flagship model, AT-LP7 offers an onboard phono preamp, VM520EB dual moving-magnet cartridge, speed-perfect belt-drive motor, heavy platter, and, to top it off, a really nice price.
Congratulations to all of The Absolute Sound winners and our "Analog Eight"!
