Anyone who has ever heard the Allman Brothers Band knows well the enviable balance of swing, power, and spiritualism wrought by the rhythm section. Drummer Butch Trucks, a co-founding member of the group, drove that sound for the collective's entire tenure and played on iconic records such as Eat a Peach, Brothers and Sisters, and At Fillmore East. Trucks, a 69-year-old Jacksonville native who didn't get his own drum kit until he was in the 11th grade, passed away January 24 in West Palm Beach, Florida, less than three years removed from the Allman Brothers Band's final gig. His spirit, energy, and famous "hittin' the note" grooves will forever live on via the group's timeless albums.
